Travel information

Arrival by plane at the Dusseldorf international airport:
Please take the sky train to the Dusseldorf airport railway station. There are a number of fast and local trains connecting to the Bochum main railway station (Hauptbahnhof). Commuting time is one hour with the slowest train (S-Bahn) or 30 minutes with a fast train. For the S-Bahn you have to purchase the ticket in advance from a ticket vending machine and make sure that you stamp it before going to the
platform (rate C). In case of the fast train you may purchase the ticket in the train from a ticket controller, but it is advisable to purchase the ticket in advance at the DB ticket counter. All trains, which go to Dortmund, Bielefeld, Hannover, or Berlin connect directly to Bochum without change. You will find the Hotel Ibis just across from the south exit of the railway station (opposite side from the main exit leading into the shopping area).

Arrival by car at the Ruhr-Universitat Bochum:
For those who arrive by car I am enclosing a map of the Ruhr-University with highway connections. The easiest way to the Ruhr University of Bochum is via the freeway (Autobahn) A 43 to the junction Bochum - Witten. The exit named "Ruhr Universitat" leads you to the Universitats Strasse, which you follow approx. 2 km up to the exit Uni Mitte (not Uni Center!). Drive all the way through the underground parking garage (dropping down several levels) until you arrive at a stop sign. Across from the stop sign is a gate to the parking lot for the IBZ (the driving direction is indicated by the blue dashed line in the enclosed campus map). The gate should be open for guests of the IBZ. From the parking lot follow the signs to the IBZ. In case of trouble either find a parking space somewhere else you call me (0171 72 818 62).

How to reach the IBZ from the railway station:
Take the metro/underground U 35. Purchase a ticket before going to the platform. You need a ticket of the price category A. Stop at the Ruhr-Universitat (10 min ride). Go up the escalator and turn right over the bridge. Continue walking straight, passing by the University library on the right, going down some steps passing by the Audi max again to the right. Keep going straigt and climb down all possible steps towards the south end of the campus, passing by the "Mensa". Cross the "Sudstrasse" and go further down into the park area. Do not go to the Botanical garden, which is on the left side. The entrance to the IBZ is a bit more to the right, south of the "Mensa".

Accomodation:
Most of you will stay in the hotel "Ibis" in the Center of Bochum just behind the main railway station. The rail station is supposed to be renovated (that's at least what the railway officials are telling us) and is in quite bad shape presently.

Ibis hotel on the south side of the main railway station in Bochum.
